Bramwood Holiday Bungalow is situated down a peaceful, quiet tree lined lane in the hamlet of Pitton on the slopes of Rhossili Downs. There are many walks one of which is down through Pitton Cross farm to Mewslade Bay that many surfers enjoy.
There are many accessible beaches on Gower and Swansea. Visit our links page for more info. We are in the process of getting accredited for disabled access, and fully equipped for you to have a stress free holiday.
We have been graded 4 Stars with Visit Wales which was very exciting for us and we try very hard to maintain the Visit Wales standard. During 2014 we were chosen to receive a Rural Accommodation Grant from Swansea Tourist team, which enabled us to buy a new ceiling tracking hoist, a new profiling bed and shower chair.
The ArjoHuntleigh Maxi Sky 2 hoist is a X-Y ceiling tracking system that will allow coverage of the bedroom and bathroom. We are also replacing our profiling bed with a Minuet 2 extending profiling bed, which means that we can cater for tall people, and they will not be required to hire a bed in the future.
Bramwood is in a superb position set down a lane off the main Rhossili road, so it is quiet and peaceful, but close enough to explore the Gower Peninsula. One of the places that is a must visit is to drive to Rhossili and have a drink in the local tearooms, or go to the pub. The views are spectacular of the Worm's Head and Rhossili beach.
About Our Property
Bramwood was originally adapted for our son who is a wheelchair user who is affected by Cerebral Palsy.
We therefore as a family know what it is like to travel, stay in hotels, and to eat out, always having to think ahead. Can we get the wheelchair in and what equipment is available, and to get there to find the hotel does not have a shower commode, or gives you a hoist sling for a very large person. After 3 days of no hoist or a bed that is adjustable for the user and carer, you are ready to go home because there is no way to get someone into and out of a normal bath safely.
In Bramwood we are therefore trying to create a unique opportunity for families to enjoy a break with access to specialist equipment, in an area of outstanding natural beauty which maybe you would not have chosen to visit.
We will always be open to constructive ideas on how we can improve the already existing facilities to make your stay extra special.
It is nice to be able to book to go away and someone at the other end has looked at the pitfalls of travelling with a wheelchair user, and has been there themselves. If you can fill in the booking form that I will supply you with as much information, so that if I can source equipment you require I have time to get it in place before you arrive.
Important Notes on accommodation
The accommodation is wheelchair friendly and family friendly. If we don’t have what you need we can source mobility equipment for you to hire. We are well equipped for families, so you don’t need to take up packing space with all those bulky items. Just call us to check what we have. FREE Wi-Fi available.Adapted Bedroom
One of the bedrooms and its Ensuite has been comprehensively adapted to enable a guest in a wheelchair or limited mobility to stay in comfort and the property was designed to meet the needs of a wheelchair user. This means that disabled guests can move easily around the property both in and outside. It might seem strange that we the owners of Bramwood have chosen to use our accessible bungalow as a holiday let specifically to meet the needs of part of the population which is under catered for nationally.
After over 30 years experience of travelling with our son we know what it is like to try and find suitable places to stay.
The unique point about this bungalow is the adapted room which we are hoping will make our guests want to come again, or tell other people out our venture on the Gower.
The property can be rented with or without the adapted room; this room will be left locked if you do not require its adaptions. There is plenty of facilities for the rest of the family with 3 separate toilets a family bathroom with shower over and a wet room situated in bedroom one.
IF THIS ROOM IS REQUIRED YOU WILL BE SENT A QUESTIONAIRE TO ENSURE THAT WE CAN PROVIDE THE CORRECT EQUIPMENT FOR YOUR STAY.
You enter the property into the hallway from which you access the sitting room and the four ground floor bedrooms. The flooring is level access oak throughout and the pale neutral décor is pleasing and attractive.
The comfortable sitting room with its oak flooring and log burner has been arranged to allow wheelchair access and is an appealing bright room overlooking the terrace that you can access through double sliding doors. The terrace has patio furniture and a BBQ for al fresco dining.
The accessible bedroom is next to the sitting room and has similar wheelchair accessible sliding doors onto the terrace, and is a bright airy room. This bedroom is equipped with an ArjoHuntleigh Minuet profiling electric bed with a Hi-Visc mattress. There is an ArjoHuntleigh Maxi Sky 2 tracking ceiling hoist system that can transport the guest into the bathroom, and into the bath.
We also have available an ArjoHuntleigh Lisa floor electric hoist. The ceiling hoist is fitted with the clip type fitting and we have both dressing slings and bathing slings available in the house. These can be washed throughout the week. If you have Oxford type slings let us know, and we can change our spreader bar to accommodate your slings. The bathroom has a bath; fitted with a hand held shower, and a Gerberit Aqua Clean 8000+ Care toilet with a wheeled Osprey commode/shower chair over. It has tiled anti-slip flooring.
There is a flat panel television in the bedroom with free sat. And once again a tasteful neutral colour scheme, and level access wooden floors. The L-shaped kitchen/ diner is a great place to socialize whilst you prepare dinner. The well-appointed kitchen is fully fitted with an Aga Rayburn cooker/boiler, which also provides the hot water and heating.
The back door of the property has a small step and leads from the utility room onto a paved walkway above, which there are a rather nice wall, mounted multi-strand clothesline. This pathway is also wheelchair accessible and leads to the garden terrace.
